WE ARE NOW ON THE CUSP OF HAVING THIS CONVERSATION IN OUR COMMUNITY AGAIN, PROBABLY AROUND DECEMBER OF YON WE MAY BE GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS OF HAVING THESE PUBLIC CONVERSATIONS.

I BELIEVE IT'S IMPORTANT BEFORE WE GO THROUGH ANY SORT OF BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENT PROCESS THAT WE HAVE A SOLID AND SOUND POLICY. IN ADDITION TO THE WORK DONE IN 2018 IS NOW RECOGNIZING FROM A FAMILY STANDPOINT, IF I HAVE A CHILD WHO IS IN THE FIRST GRADE AND A CHILD IN THE FOURTH GRADE AND THE SCHOOL ZONE REZONES MY FAMILY TO GO TO THE ANOTHER SCHOOL. ALTHOUGH THE POLICY WAS WRITTEN THAT MY FOURTH GRADER COULD SAY, MY FIRST GRADER HAD TO GO.

THE WAY IT'S WRITTEN THIS EVENING IS IT KEEPS THOSE FAMILY UNITS TOGETHER. THE FIRST AND FOURTH GRADER CAN CONTINUE THEIR SCHOOL CAREER TOGETHER WHICH IS FOR FAMILY FRIENDLY. WHAT'S ALSO LOOKED AT, I HAVE A FIRST GRADER AND A FOURTH GRADER, THEY COULD FINISH BUT IF I HAVE A 2-YEAR-OLD, THEY WOULD NEED TO GO TO THE NEW SCHOOL.

SO IT'S RECOGNIZING THOSE FAMILY DYNAMICS, ALLOWING FOR TRANSITION AND CHANGE OVER TIME BUT ULTIMATELY MAKING THE TRANSITION NEW BOUNDARIES BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE MAY NEED TO DO TO EQUALIZE. THERE'S ALSO SOME LANGUAGE BASED ON STUDENT NEED, OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES, BASED ON SOME EQUITABLE PRACTICES AND ENSURING THAT WE DON'T HAVE ONE SCHOOL THAT REFLECTS THE POPULATION THERE AND ANOTHER SCHOOL THAT REFLECTS A POPULATION THERE BUT IS MORE OF A CONSISTENT APPROACH TO A DISTRIBUTION OF OUR STUDENT BODY ACROSS THE SCHOOL DIVISION

HER ORGANIZATION OF ROSTERS WAS IMPECCABLE AND REGARDLESS OF HOW OVERWHELMING THIS TASK TEEMS TO EVERYONE ELSE, AND IT IS, SHE CONSISTENTLY REMAINS CALM AND COLLECTED.

THIS PRODUCTION WAS RECOGNIZED ON THE NEWS, I BELIEVE, EXTENSIVELY. THEIR WORK WAS TREMENDOUS SO I WANT TO READ A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE WORK OF THESE STUDENTS.

THESE YOUNG ADULTS EXEMPLIFIED EXCELLENCE AND SHOWED AMAZING CREATIVITY IN MAKING THE SHOW COME TO LIFE EVEN THOUGH IT COULDN'T BE FILMED OR REHEARSED ON STAGE.

COURAGE AND OPTIMISM WAS SHOWN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

THEY NEVER GAVE UP AND THEY STAYED POSITIVE AND MRS. WILKINS WAS HONORED TO WORK WITH THEM. I BELIEVE JACK AND DAVID WERE INVOLVED ON THE TECHNICAL SIDE. WE HAD FOLKS WHO CAME TOGETHER AND REALLY MADE THIS HAPPEN FROM THE GROUND UP.

WHO WAS STANDING OUT THERE WITH 100-DEGREE WEATHER WITH THE SUN BEATING DOWN BY HEATHER WILKINS IN A BIRD OUTFIT, COULDN'T SEE IN A BIRD OUTFIT, COULDN'T SEE BU HEATHER WILKINS IN A BIRD OUTFIT, COULDN'T SEE BT HEATHER WILKINS IN A BIRD OUTFIT, COULDN'T SEE BUT SHE WAS OUT THERE MAKING SURE THOSE KIDS HAD THAT OPPORTUNITY. WANTED IT TO BE. SO OUR COMMUNITY CAME TOGETHER LAST NIGHT. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE OUR PARENTS, OUR KIDS, AUNTS, UNCLES, FAMILY MEMBERS, CITIZENS, OUR GOOCHLAND TEAM ALL WORKING TOGETHER FOR ONE REASON AND THAT'S THE STUDENTS WHOM WE SERVE. MS. HORN AND I AND DR. COLLIER, WE HAD A BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF EVERYTHING AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL TO SEE THE GREEN GRASS AND THE BLUE SKY AND THE RED ROBES AND THE WHITE ROBES AND 3,000 PEOPLE IN THAT STADIUM ALL THERE TO CELEBRATE THOSE GRADUATES, IT WAS JUST PURELY MAGICAL, SO I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO MADE THAT POSSIBLE.

THE AMOUNT OF HOURS, A LOT OF SWEAT BECAUSE IT WAS HOT, BUT SACRIFICES FROM THEIR FAMILIES AND JUST AMAZING THINGS TO PULL THAT OFF LAST NIGHT. THAT CLASS DESERVED TO HAVE THAT EXPERIENCE AND SO I WANT TO PUBLICLY CONGRATULATE, AGAIN, THE CLASS OF 2021. IT'S A VERY STRONG CLASS AND WHETHER THOSE STUDENTS ARE ENTER THE ARMED SERVICES OR CONTINUING THEIR EDUCATION OR ENTERING THE WORK FORCE, OUR COMMUNITY, STATE, AND NATION WILL BE BETTER OFF WITH INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PREPARED. WE HAVE INSPIRED THEM AND THEY ARE PREPARED TO SERVE THIS COMMUNITY AND THIS WORLD.

THEY'RE GOING TO DO GREAT THINGS SO IT WAS TRULY A PLEASURE TO BE ABLE TO CELEBRATE THAT WITH THEM.

I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY YESTERDAY TO ATTEND THE FIFTH GRADE CLASS OF 2021 AND TOMORROW WE'LL GO TO BIRD AND CELEBRATE THOSE STUDENTS AS THEY MOVE ON. I REFERENCED WHAT HAPPENED LAST FRIDAY AT GOOCHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL WHERE THESE STUDENTS ARE TRANSITIONING TO BULLDOGS SO THIS IS A SPECIAL TIME OF YEAR FOR US. THE WORK THAT WE DO FROM A POLICY STANDPOINT AND THE DECISIONS THAT ARE MADE ARE REALLY ROOTED IN WHAT WE'RE EXPERIENCING THIS TIME OF YEAR AS OUR STUDENTS HAVING THESE SPECIAL MOMENTS, OUR FAMILIES GET TO STAND THERE AND CELEBRATE THOSE MOMENTS WITH THEM AND IT'S TRULY A CULMINATING EXPERIENCE OF ALL THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN THIS ROOM AND OUR OFFICES AND OUR CLASSROOMS. IT'S WHAT GIVES US ENERGY AS PROFESSIONALS TO MAKE SURE WE'RE DOING WHAT WE CAN TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS.

WE'LL HAVE A RETREAT AND WORK SESSION DURING THE DAY FOLLOWED BY OUR EVENING MEETING AND JUST A FEW SHORT WEEKS AFTER THAT, WE'LL WELCOME OUR NEW EMPLOYEES TO OUR SCHOOL DIVISION FROM THE 10TH THROUGH THE 13TH AND THEN WE WILL KICK OFF THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR WITH OUR CONVOCATION ON THE 16TH, A GRAND REOPENING, A LOT OF THINGS TO CELEBRATE AS WE'RE PREPARING FOR A BOND REFERENDUM, PREPARING FOR THE RETURN OF 99.99% OF OUR STUDENTS IN PERSON.

AS I MENTIONED, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH OUR FAMILIES TO DETERMINE WHAT THEIR INTERESTS ARE FOR NEXT YEAR AND AT THIS POINT IN TIME, WE HAVE ONLY A HAND FULL OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE REQUESTING A DISTANCED LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND WE ARE WORKING WITH THOSE INDIVIDUALS TO DETERMINE WHAT THE BEST SITUATION IS FOR THEM NEXT YEAR BUT WE CAN EXPECT THE VAST MAJORITY OF OUR STUDENTS TO BE RETURNING IN PERSON WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JUST A HAND FULL OF INDIVIDUALS SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US THE HAVE LEARNING AND CONSTRUCTION CONTINUE TO A GREATER DEGREE THAN IT HAS THIS YEAR WITH A MORE TRADITIONAL DAY AND SPEERNS WE HAD IN OUREXPERIENCES WE HAD CLASSROOMS PRIOR TO PANDEMIC. I APPLAUD OUR INSTRUCTORS GREATLY. WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO EXPANDING ON THAT SO FULL STEAM AHEAD WITH THAT.

USING THE MODELS ABOVE, WE HAVE SERVED 73,072 FREE BREAKFAST MEALS THIS YEAR AND 102,973 FREE LUNCH MEALS THIS YEAR. I DIDN'T SURE THIS WITH YOU LAST TIME I WAS HERE BUT WE ADDED AN EFFICIENCY TO OUR SECONDARY COMPLEX CAFETERIA. IT'S A TRAY CEILING MACHINE AND WE HAVE USED IT TO CREATE OUR OWN MEALS. WE FREEZE THEM AND PARENT CANS PICK THEM UP AT THE CURB SIDE. THEY'RE OVENABLE AND THE TRAYS ARE COMPOSTABLE.

THEY HAVE ABOUT 600 BOOKS TO GIVE US TO DONATE WITH THE MEALS. I JUST HEARD ABOUT THAT BEFORE I CAME OVER HERE. AND THEY'RE PRINTING US UP SOME FLIERS AND HANDOUTS AND DIFFERENT THINGS TO GIVE OUT.
